Start with the electrical installation
Match the charge point to the property supply, available phases, maximum demand, vehicle onboard charger and other household loads. The installer may need to notify or contact the distribution network operator.
Smart charge point requirements
Charge points sold for intended private use in Great Britain are subject to the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021. The rules cover smart functionality, default off-peak charging, demand-side response, security and user information.
Installation and protection
Use a competent installer who can assess earthing, protective devices, cable routing and the current edition of the Wiring Regulations. Product compliance does not prove that a particular property is ready for installation.

Check ownership, landlord or freeholder consent, parking rights, metering and cable routes before ordering. Planning and building-control requirements can vary by property and nation within the UK.
